Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Casablanca -> Rabat -> Chefchaouen
Depart Casablanca and head north, optionally pausing in Rabat for a short introduction to the capital's landmarks before continuing into the Rif Mountains. By afternoon, arrive in Chefchaouen and settle into your riad.
Spend the rest of the day exploring the medina's blue-washed streets, artisan corners, and hillside viewpoints. The compact scale of Chefchaouen makes it an ideal first stop after Casablanca and a relaxed transition into the rest of Morocco.
Meals: Not included
Accommodation: Riad in Chefchaouen
Driving time: Approx. 5 to 6 hours
Day 2: Chefchaouen -> Volubilis -> Meknes -> Fes
After breakfast, drive south to Volubilis for a visit among Roman mosaics, columns, and archaeological remains. Continue to Meknes, where monumental gates and imperial planning reveal the city's former political importance.
Later in the day, continue to Fes and check in to a riad. This day gives the route a strong historical backbone before the desert section begins.
Meals: Breakfast
Accommodation: Riad in Fes
Driving time: Approx. 4 to 5 hours excluding visits
Day 3: Fes -> Ifrane -> Azrou -> Midelt -> Ziz Valley -> Merzouga
Leave Fes in the morning and drive through the Middle Atlas with stops in Ifrane and the cedar forests near Azrou. Continue via Midelt and descend through the scenic Ziz Valley, where palm groves and fortified villages create one of the country's classic overland views.
Arrive in Merzouga by late afternoon. From here, camels or a 4x4 transfer take you into the dunes for sunset and overnight camp in the Sahara.
Meals: Breakfast + Dinner
Accommodation: Traditional or luxury Berber camp in Erg Chebbi
Driving time: Approx. 7 to 8 hours with stops
Day 4: Merzouga -> Todra Gorge -> Dades Valley
Watch sunrise over the Sahara before breakfast. Depending on timing, there may be space for a short dune walk, sandboarding, or quiet time at the edge of the desert before departure. Continue west toward Tinghir and the dramatic Todra Gorge, one of southern Morocco's best-known canyon landscapes.
Afterward, drive through oasis settlements and kasbah scenery toward the Dades Valley, known for its sculpted rock formations and fortified architecture. Overnight in a hotel or guesthouse in the valley area.
Meals: Breakfast + Dinner
Accommodation: Hotel or riad in Dades Valley area
Driving time: Approx. 5 to 6 hours
Day 5: Dades Valley -> Ouarzazate -> Ait Ben Haddou
After breakfast, continue through the Valley of Roses, Skoura, and Ouarzazate, a key crossroads of southern Morocco. Later, visit Ait Ben Haddou, the UNESCO-listed ksar famous for its earthen architecture and film history. Staying nearby allows the site to be experienced more fully than on a quick transit stop.
Meals: Breakfast + Dinner
Accommodation: Guesthouse or hotel near Ait Ben Haddou or Ouarzazate
Driving time: Approx. 4 to 5 hours
Day 6: Ait Ben Haddou -> High Atlas Mountains -> Marrakech
Cross the High Atlas Mountains via the famous Tizi n'Tichka pass. This is one of the most scenic drives in Morocco, with winding mountain roads, Berber villages, and wide panoramic views before descending toward Marrakech.
