Morning: Departure and the Road South
Pickup from your riad or hotel in Marrakech is typically between 8:30 and 9:00 AM. The drive south follows the Ourika road, and the change in scenery is immediate — palm groves and roadside orange stalls give way to red kasbahs, poplar trees, and increasingly dramatic foothills as the road climbs toward the valley.
Mid-Morning: Berber Village and Argan Cooperative
Your first stop is usually a women-run argan oil cooperative, where you can see the traditional press-by-hand process and taste argan oil, amlou (almond-argan spread), and local honey. From there, a short walk through a nearby Berber village offers a look at rural mountain life: flat-roofed stone houses, small terraced gardens, and, often, an invitation for tea from a local family.
Midday: Setti Fatma and the Seven Waterfalls
The valley road ends at Setti Fatma, a small village built along the river and the starting point for the hike to the Ourika waterfalls. The first waterfall is a manageable 20–30 minute walk from the village along a rocky path, suitable for most fitness levels. More ambitious hikers can continue up toward the higher falls, adding roughly 1.5–2 hours round trip and a moderate scramble.
